VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
2006-07 Kentucky FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournament

Below is a brief description of the various roles that need to be filled for the FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournaments. Volunteers will be needed from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th. It is mandatory for all volunteers to be trained at one of the scheduled training sessions.

Judging Roles

• Technical Judges -- Judge the construction, mechanical efficiency of robot designs and programming efficiency
• Science Project Judges – Evaluate research and solution of a problem chosen from a list provided by FLL and completed prior to the competition
• Teamwork Judges – Observe teams at work, confer with team and others to evaluate team camaraderie and individual members' involvement in overall competition

Table Competition Roles

• Referees – Referee the robot table competition
• Referee Assistants – Help set up the tables between competitions
• Timekeepers – Time rounds and notify referee and team when competition time slot begins and ends
• Bull Pen Monitors – Hold teams in designated area on the competition floor until they are ready to compete
• Play-by-Play Announcers – To call the action, talk to competitors, and interview coaches and mentors

Practice Area Roles

• Pit Crew – Help with technical problems (loss of electricity, etc) in pit area
• Practice Table Monitor – Maintains sign-up sheet for practice tables and observes teams' use of tables
• Practice Table Referees – Referees the practice table
• Pit Area Guards – Guard the pit area to allow only team members and their mentors into the pits
• Pit Boss – Maintains schedule and traffic flow from the Pit

Administrative and Support Roles

• Team Registration – Register teams as they arrive at the competition
• Volunteer Registration – Direct volunteers to their work area
• Scorekeepers – Keep total team scores from technical, research and teamwork judges, and scores from the table competitions
• Team Escorts – Walk teams from the pit area to the presentation areas and to the competition floor on time
• Runners – Run errands as necessary, fill-in where needed
• Guards – Maintain safety and order in various locations
• Set-up Crew – On Friday afternoon, set up interview rooms, competition area, pit area, and volunteer area (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.). Volunteers participating as Set-up Crew and also volunteer for any other role for the Saturday Tournament.
• Break-Down Crew – On Saturday after the tournament, break down interview rooms, competition area, pit area, and volunteer area (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Volunteers participating as Break-down Crew and also volunteer for any other role for the Saturday Tournament as long as their responsibilities are completed by 3:00.
